People
with edentulism
(i.e. total loss of teeth in the upper or lower jaw) are usually
encouraged to wear dentures to allow them to speak and eat normally
again. As helpful as dentures are, however, they can also cause
embarrassment and discomfort, as they have a tendency to fall off or
come loose. Dental implants are the more preferable solutions, but
the costs of replacing each tooth with a dental implant can be out of
most patients’ reach.

Dentures falling out may seem funny on cartoons and
comedy sketches, but hardly so when it happens in real life. Sadly,
it is something that can happen to anyone, causing much embarrassment
to the denture wearer. Despite dentists' best efforts to come with
the best fitting dentures, physical changes in the oral cavity, such
as bone degradation, can loosen up dentures.
If you’ve been wearing dentures for a long time,
chances are you’ve been in some extremely awkward situations. After
all, standard dentures have a nasty reputation of coming loose,
resulting in reduced functionality or even falling out of the mouth
while talking. Fortunately, a quick visit to a
reputable dentist can help you with your denture woes.
Everything begins with you discussing your plight with
the practitioner and a full check of all your teeth, plus testing if
you are eligible for implantation. The dentist may advise you of
certain issues that rule out implantation, such as existing
periodontal disorders or health problems that affect the gums. The
dentures may also have to be analyzed for their original fit and
determine if some bone loss has occurred.
Advances in oral technology have enabled the development
of innovative mini implants, which have been found to be effective
against loose dentures. One benefit of mini implantation is that the
entire procedure will not take more than an hour to finish. The
current dentures will also be fixed up to properly interlock with the
implants or you can consent to creating new dentures.
It's never good to see an elderly loved one struggle
with their palates; on the other side of the coin, they can feel it
too despite the best adhesive products being used to keep the
dentures in place. If you or your loved one can no longer invest in
denture adhesives that will degrade before long, consider going for
sturdy denture implants.
